HeBrews Café

HeBrews Café is a place for you to grab coffee or a coke, enjoy a pastry or donut, and have a chat with visitors, family, or friends. Located in the northwest corner of the multi-purpose building, HeBrews is open before and after the 9:30 service, and before the 11:00 service. Lou Ella Haines and her team of volunteers work hard to make HeBrews a welcoming place.

HeBrews HiTopsHeBrews underwent a complete remodel in September, 2011, paid for in total by receipts from coffee purchases and some designated gifts. You will notice a plaque honoring long-time volunteer Dennis Guglielmetti, who served faithfully in HeBrews in spite of losing his ability to speak due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). His example was, and continues to be, an inspiration to everyone at Friendship.

Where did the name come from? HeBrews is a play on two words. In the Old Testament of the Bible, "Hebrews" is synonymous with the nation of Israel or people of Jewish ancestry. In the New Testament, the book of Hebrews is addressed to Jewish Christians. Christians often describe themselves as "adopted" Jews, even through they are not ethnically Jewish. Anyone who makes coffee "brews" the beverage by passing hot water through roasted coffee beans (grounds) and often shares the result with friends and strangers. HeBrews, then, is a place where all followers of Jesus, from every heritage, can come together to share a common cup and build long-lasting relationships.

Come on in! We'll have the coffee ready.
