Love Others
Loving Others means focusing on their needs above our own. At Friendship, we concentrate on loving others in two ways, by doing life together in CORE Groups (small groups that meet regularly) and through sharing the gospel (telling others about Jesus).
CORE Groups
CORE groups are made up of a cross-section of people at Friendship... men, women, married, single... who share a desire to become a disciple of Jesus in the company of friends. We call them "Core" groups because group members are committed to helping each other live out the "core" values of Friendship: Love God, Love Others, and Serve. CORE groups meet regularly, both formally and informally, to study, pray, fellowship, and serve together.
We limit the number of people in each CORE group to help members get to know, love, and serve others more effectively. Groups are continuously "birthing" (dividing, planting, launching) new groups to accommodate even more people. Several "open" groups are listed below, and others are forming all the time. Email us at coregroups@friendshipumc.org if you have questions about availability and schedule.
Gender-Specific CORE Groups
Gender-specific CORE Groups allow a greater level of honesty and focus than other groups. Accountability is often higher and communication more open when guys are with guys and women with women. You'll find gender-specific CORE Groups attached to: our Women's Ministry, Men's Ministry, and Celebrate Recovery. Visit their individual pages for current availability.
CORE Communities
A great way to find a CORE Group (or to "test the waters" if you're not quite ready to jump into a CORE group) is to come to New Community on Wednesdays at 6:30. Several core groups meet at that time, often as a part of a larger, mid-sized group called a CORE community. For more information, go to the New Community page.
CORE Group Leadership Development
We're currently training leaders for start-up groups. If you'd like to know what's involved in leading a CORE group, email our Discipleship Pastor, Dave Treat, at dave@friendshipumc.org.
